System Specs

As a Galaxy Class vessel and refit for her duties in the Delta Quadrant, The USS Columbia in most respects mirrors the design factors of regular Star Fleet ships. She has 243 Officers presiding over a crew of about 1000 hundred, plus passengers. But instead of the regular galaxy class size of 42 decks, she has 46. The length, width and height have also been expanded to 650, 471 and 336 Meters respectively. This size allows for increased structural integrity and shielding and the new refit carries thirteen Type XII  Phaser banks and three Quantum torpedo bays with 200 assorted Quantum and Photon torpedoes in each. The Columbia also maintains a cruising speed of warp 7.7 and a top speed of warp 9.9.

She carries the same type of support craft as other ships of her size and class. However, This year Star Fleet has decided to retire the aging Venture Class of fighter and replace it with the Eagle and Raptor classes. The USS Columbia can carry a full compliment of two fighter squadrons, & Raptor and Seven Eagle fighter, plus extra repair and exploration craft. The three Runabouts make themselves useful along with the six or so shuttle craft as tools of transport or repair and the afore mentioned task of explorations or if the Columbia gets in a tight spot they can be used to compliment the fighter squadrons.  The normal operation of the ship requires that she incorporate the new Ceillion type VI Power Core, used often in the Sovereign class design. This Warp Core system powers each part of the ship and provides superior speeds and energy production. It gives increased strengh to all seven of the Columbia's tractor emitters eliminating the need to charging each one before use.

All things considered the Columbia type refit first seen in the Venture refit class has fully revolutionized the Galaxy Class of starship. The new edge given to it will provide the Federation with an almost whole new ship design from hulls already in use. The threats that the Iconian gate technology has provided by opening a gate into the little explored Delta Quadrant can now be balanced by this ship design instead of assigning only " Modern" warships to this area of space. The Prime Directive of seeking out new life and new civilization to boldly go where no man has gone before can now continue.
